The TOPIX Mid400 Index calculates the Index value based on the market capitalization of 400 stocks that are included in the TOPIX 500 stocks but not included in the TOPIX 100, selected out of all the stocks that are consisted of the Tokyo Stock Price Index (TOPIX), after adjusting for public float. The Index was developed with a base value of 1,000 as of 1 April 1998 (closing price) to Index the subsequent movements of the market capitalization of the constituent stocks.

The market capitalization is adjusted for factors other than the market condition, such as issuance of new shares for sale, initial listing, and delisting, in order to preclude influence from such factors and secure the continuity of the index. The TOPIX Mid400 Index is one of the capitalization-weighted equity indexes developed as a result of segmentation of the TOPIX stocks by scale in accordance with certain criteria.
